Stay Connected to Your Board. Stay Safe.
A SUP leash isn't just an accessory — it's your safety line on the water. The right leash keeps your board within reach every time, no matter the conditions.
Shop Leashes →Why a Leash Is Non-Negotiable
Every year, paddlers are injured — or worse — after falling off their board in wind and current without a leash. It takes seconds for a board to drift 50 meters.
Boards Drift Fast
An inflatable SUP acts like a sail. In 15 mph wind, your board can be 100 meters away before you surface from a fall. Without a leash, you're swimming — and the board keeps going.
Currents Are Unpredictable
Flatwater paddling feels safe until it isn't. River currents, ocean drift, and offshore winds can separate a board from its paddler in seconds. A leash means your flotation device is always attached to you.
Energy Draining Recovery
Swimming after a runaway board in chop or current is exhausting and dangerous — especially in cold water. A leash eliminates this risk entirely and keeps you focused on getting back on your board, not chasing it.

Coiled vs. Straight — Which Do You Need?
The right leash type depends entirely on where you paddle. Here's how to choose.
Coiled Leash — 10ft
Coils retract close to your ankle, keeping the cord out of the water and away from your paddle. Perfect for lakes, calm rivers, and recreational paddling. The coil absorbs stretch gradually — no sudden snaps.
- Stays above water — zero drag on paddle strokes
- Ideal for flatwater, yoga, fitness touring
- 10ft extended length (stored: ~4ft)
- Ankle or calf attachment options
Straight Leash — 10ft
Straight leashes release tension faster — critical when strong currents or waves pull the board. Also available in a calf-mount version for river safety, where an ankle leash can be a hazard.
- Faster tension release in dynamic conditions
- Ideal for ocean surf, river rapids
- 10ft length — board stays reachable
- Ankle or calf attachment options
SUP Leash FAQ
Which ankle should I attach the leash to?
Attach the leash to your back ankle — the one closest to the tail of the board when you're in your paddling stance. This minimizes how much cord drapes across the deck and reduces tripping hazard during footwork transitions.
Should I use a leash on flat, calm water?
Yes, always. Calm water can change quickly, and a leash ensures your inflatable SUP — your primary flotation device — is never more than arm's reach away. It's especially important if you're paddling in a new location or away from shore.
How long should my SUP leash be?
Your leash should be at least as long as your board. Most paddlers use a 9–10 ft leash on a 10–11 ft board. This gives you enough line to fall without the board snapping back at you, while keeping it close enough to swim to quickly.
When should I replace my SUP leash?
Inspect your leash before every session. Replace it if you notice any cracks or cloudiness in the urethane cord, fraying at the swivel connection points, a velcro cuff that no longer holds firmly, or any corrosion on the metal hardware. An annual replacement is recommended for frequent paddlers regardless of visual condition.
