A pinhole puncture might only drop 1 PSI every 10 minutes — but that's enough to turn a rigid, performance board into a soft, unstable mess by the end of your session. Finding it without the right tools is nearly impossible.
Valve Failures Are Common
The Halkey-Roberts valve on most inflatable SUPs can loosen over time. A loose valve leaks air constantly and can cause rapid deflation in the water. Without a valve wrench, you can't tighten or replace it in the field.
Wrong Adhesive = Failed Repair
Standard superglue, duct tape, and general-purpose patches don't bond to PVC drop-stitch material. Using the wrong patch material means your repair peels off the next time the board gets wet — or worse, under pressure during your next session.

How to Repair a Puncture — Step by Step
A standard puncture repair takes 15–20 minutes and holds permanently when done correctly.
Find the Leak
Inflate the board to normal pressure. Spray the leak detection solution over the surface — bubbles will form instantly at any leak point. Mark the spot with a pen. For valve leaks, spray directly around the valve stem and base.
Prep the Surface
Deflate completely. Clean the repair area with the included sandpaper — this roughens the surface and dramatically improves adhesive bond strength. Wipe clean and allow to dry fully before applying any adhesive.
Apply and Bond
Mix the two-part PVC adhesive per instructions. Apply a thin, even layer to both the patch and board surface. Wait 3–5 minutes until tacky, then press the patch firmly and hold for 2 full minutes. Cure time: 2–24 hours before re-inflating.
Repair Kit FAQ
Can I repair my board at the beach?
Yes — but conditions matter. You need a clean, dry surface for the adhesive to bond correctly. Avoid repairs in direct wind or when the board surface is wet or cold. Temperatures below 10°C significantly slow cure time. For best results, repair in a sheltered, warm environment when possible.
How long does a patched repair last?
When done correctly with PVC-specific adhesive, a repair on a drop-stitch board is effectively permanent. The patch material is the same PVC construction as the board itself. Repairs done with the correct adhesive and proper surface prep have been known to outlast the board's overall service life.
My board keeps losing air but I can't find a hole. What do I do?
The most common culprit is a slightly loose valve — not a puncture. Use the included valve wrench to tighten the Halkey-Roberts valve clockwise (just a quarter to half turn). If the board still loses air after tightening, inflate to full pressure and use the leak detection spray to check seams, the valve base, and the entire deck and rail surface systematically.
Does the repair kit work on other inflatable watercraft?
Yes. Our marine-grade PVC adhesive and patches are compatible with most PVC inflatable kayaks, kiteboards, and inflatable rafts. Check that your product uses PVC (not Hypalon) material — Hypalon requires a different adhesive formulation and a different patch material entirely.
How do I know when I need a new board vs. a repair?
Small punctures up to about 5cm in any direction are excellent repair candidates. Larger tears along seams, delamination of the top/bottom deck panel, or multiple repairs in the same area may indicate it's time to consider a replacement.
