Why Pumping Can Be So Painful

Takes Too Long

A single-action pump only inflates on the downstroke — cutting your output by half. For a board that needs 15 PSI, that can mean 20–30 minutes of pumping before you're even ready to launch.

Exhausting at High PSI

As your board approaches full pressure, each stroke requires significantly more force. A pump without a high-pressure mode forces you to fight this resistance with brute effort, wearing you out before you even paddle.

Leaky Valve Connections

Cheap pumps use poorly fitting valve adapters that leak air back between strokes. You're pumping the same air twice — and your board never quite reaches optimal pressure, leaving performance on the table.

ABY Dual-Action High-Pressure Pump

Engineered for Efficiency at Every PSI

ABY's signature hand pump inflates on both the up and down stroke — delivering twice the air volume per cycle at low pressure. Switch to single-action high-pressure mode above 10 PSI for maximum efficiency at the final stage.

  • Dual-action mode: inflates on up + down stroke
  • Integrated high-accuracy PSI gauge (analog + digital)
  • Rated to 20 PSI — handles any inflatable SUP
  • 5 universal valve adapters included (covers all major valve types)
  • Ergonomic wide-stance base — stable on any surface
  • Non-slip cushioned handle — no blisters on long pumping sessions

SUP Pump FAQ

What PSI should I inflate my SUP to?

Most inflatable SUPs perform best between 12–15 PSI. Heavier riders (over 200 lbs) should aim for the higher end of their board's rated pressure. Always check your board's manual — over-inflating above the maximum rated PSI can damage seams and drop-stitch construction.

Can I use one pump for multiple boards?

Yes. ABY pumps include 5 universal valve adapters covering Halkey-Roberts (the most common SUP valve), Boston, screw-top, and military pin valves — covering virtually every inflatable SUP and kayak on the market.

How do I switch between dual-action and high-pressure mode?

Most ABY dual-action pumps switch via a simple pin or dial at the top of the barrel. Use dual-action (both directions) from 0 to approximately 10 PSI, then switch to single-action for the final push — it's physically easier at high resistance and just as efficient.

My board loses pressure overnight — is it a pump issue?

Not likely. Boards naturally lose a small amount of pressure overnight as temperature drops (air contracts when cold). A loss of 1–2 PSI is normal. If you're losing 5+ PSI overnight, check the valve connection and inspect the board for leaks with soapy water or our leak detection solution from the ABY repair kit.
