Track Straighter. Turn Sharper. Paddle Better.
The right fin setup transforms how your board handles — more stability when you need it, more maneuverability when you want it. A small upgrade with a surprisingly big impact.

Your Board Performs Like Its Fin
Most paddlers underestimate how much fins affect their experience on the water. The right fin cuts through water cleanly, reduces the constant micro-corrections you make with your paddle, and makes your board feel like an extension of your body.
- Longer center fin → better straight-line tracking on flatwater
- Wider, swept base → more stability for yoga and beginners
- Smaller side fins → sharper, more responsive turning
- Flexible nylon → bends on impact, won't snap on shallow-water strikes
- Correct installation → significant performance difference vs. wrong system
What Each Feature Does for You
Better Tracking
A longer center fin cuts a cleaner path through the water, reducing the constant correction strokes you'd otherwise need. The result is more forward momentum from every paddle and a noticeably smoother experience on flatwater and open ocean.
Greater Stability
A wider, swept-back fin creates lateral resistance — essential for beginners, paddlers practicing SUP yoga, or anyone carrying weight on their board. Stability starts below the waterline, not from just standing still and hoping.
Sharper Control
Smaller side fins add directional bite for turning — important for surfing waves, navigating tight river bends, or technical paddle work. A pure single-fin setup prioritizes tracking; add side fins when you want faster turning response.
Choose Your Fin Setup
The right configuration depends on where and how you paddle.
9" Center Fin
The most versatile configuration. One large center fin maximizes straight-line tracking on flat water. Perfect for touring, fitness paddling, and casual cruising. Fits US box fin systems.
- 9" height — optimal tracking depth
- US box compatible (most common SUP system)
- Flexible nylon — bends on impact, won't snap
- Tool-free or screw-mount options
2+1 Thruster Fin Set
One 7" center fin with two 4.5" side fins delivers the classic surf-style thruster response. The center fin tracks; the side fins bite for tight turns. Ideal for ocean surfing and technical paddle boarding.
- 7" center + two 4.5" side fins
- Fin key and hardware included
- FCS-compatible side slots
- Fiberglass-reinforced construction
Quick-Release Click Fin
No tools, no fin key, no fumbling at the launch. ABY's click-fin system snaps in and locks in under 30 seconds. Designed for ABY boards with proprietary click-tab fin boxes.
- Installs tool-free in 30 seconds
- Positive click-lock — won't dislodge mid-paddle
- Available in 6", 9", and 11" sizes
- Exclusive to ABY click-fin boards (2021+)
SUP Fins FAQ
Do I need to remove my fin when packing down my inflatable SUP?
Yes — fins should always be removed before deflating and rolling your board. Leaving a fin in the box under rolling pressure can deform the fin box and damage the board's drop-stitch construction over time. Most fins take under 60 seconds to remove.
What fin system does my ABY board use?
All ABY boards from 2021 onward use our proprietary Click-Fin system as the center box, with two FCS-compatible side slots. Older ABY boards (pre-2021) use a standard US box. Check the fin box on your board — US box is a long rectangular slot with a screw hole; the click-fin has a narrower slot with a tab button.
Can I use a bigger fin for more stability?
Up to a point, yes. A larger fin increases lateral resistance, which helps with tracking and reduces side-to-side wobble. However, fins above 10" can make turning difficult in surf or narrow waterways. For most recreational paddlers, a 9" center fin is the ideal balance of tracking and maneuverability.
My board keeps spinning out when I turn. What fin should I use?
Spinning out (the fin losing grip and sliding sideways during a turn) is usually caused by a fin that's too small or too flexible for the speed you're paddling at. Try upgrading to a larger center fin, or adding side fins with a 2+1 setup to give the board more directional stability through turns.
