If you’re getting that firm, almost-wood-like response, you’re there.
Can You Over-Inflate and Damage the Board?

The Complete Inflation Sequence: Every Step in Order
Put the above together and here’s the full sequence from carry bag to water-ready board. Do this twice and it becomes automatic.
Step 1 — Unroll and Position the Board (1 minute)
Remove the board from the carry bag and unroll completely on a flat surface away from sharp edges. Fins-end toward you, nose pointing away. Make sure the EVA deck pad is facing upward — the board goes in the water with the deck pad up, so orient it that way from the start.
Step 2 — Check and Open the Valve (30 seconds)
Locate the inflation valve near the tail. Confirm the valve pin is in the raised (closed) position. If it’s locked down, press and quarter-turn to release it to the closed position. Remove the dust cap and set it somewhere you won’t lose it — the outer pocket of the carry bag is a good habit.
Step 3 — Connect the Pump Hose (30 seconds)
Thread the hose connector onto the valve clockwise until it’s firmly seated — no wobble, no play. If your pump has a dual/single action selector, set it to dual-action for the first phase.
Step 4 — Inflate Phase 1: Dual-Action to 10 PSI (4–5 minutes)
Feet positioned either side of the pump base. Body weight over the handle, slight forward lean. Push and pull with full strokes at a steady 25–30 strokes per minute. Don’t rush — a sustainable rhythm is faster overall than short sprints with rest breaks. Watch the gauge. At around 10 PSI the board will be firm but still have perceptible flex underfoot. Keep going.
Step 5 — Inflate Phase 2: Single-Action to 15 PSI (3–4 minutes)
Switch your pump to single-action mode. Continue with deliberate push strokes — slower but more focused. The resistance increases noticeably in this phase. That’s normal and correct. Watch the gauge closely as you approach 14 PSI — it climbs more slowly but can reach 15 faster than expected in the final few strokes.
Step 6 — Disconnect and Close the Valve (30 seconds)
When the gauge reads 15 PSI, stop. Disconnect the hose by turning counter-clockwise. The valve will hold pressure as you remove the hose — you’ll hear a very brief hiss as the hose releases, which is normal. Replace the dust cap on the valve. Do a final knuckle test on the deck to confirm firmness.
Step 7 — Attach Your Fin (1 minute)
Slide your centre fin into the fin box from the front, push firmly until it clicks locked. Give it a quick tug — it should not move. You’re done. The board is ready.
Total time from unroll to water-ready: 8–10 minutes for a first timer. 5–7 minutes by session three.
What a Fully Inflated Board Actually Feels Like — and How to Know You’re Ready
The gauge tells you the number. But knowing what 15 PSI feels like helps you trust the process completely — and catches the rare occasion when a gauge is reading slightly off.
The Rails Feel Like Hard Plastic
Run your hand along the side rail of the board. At 15 PSI, the rail edge should feel firm and unyielding — similar in feel to a hard plastic bucket or a kitchen worktop. If the rail has any give when you press it firmly, the board needs more pressure. This is one of the clearest physical checks available because the rail is where pressure is most obvious.
